Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) affects over eight million people in the United States yearly. This syndrome is prominent in any profession that requires repetitive movements such as assembly line work or typing. Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most expensive work-related injury claimed on worker’s compensation. It can affect one or both hands.

If left untreated for too long, carpal tunnel is not just painful, it can progress to permanent damage. More severe cases will require surgery to relieve the pain by releasing the nerve in an operating room. If caught in the early stages, chiropractic care is most effective for relief of the pain and avoiding surgical intervention.

Repetitive motion causes the median nerve to be compressed in the eight bones of the wrist. The median nerve travels from the forearm to the hand. The most common symptoms of CTS are pain and numbness in the hand and wrist, although the numbness can also travel all the way up to the shoulder.

Chiropractic treatment for CTS provides significant pain improvement while increasing finger sensation and range of motion of the wrist and hand.
